Summer is here, and with the beautiful long days and the happiness of being outside, comes higher than usual UV rays. We wear sun cream and stay in shaded areas and try to keep our skin covered, but what do we do for our wigs?
Synthetic fibres are not made to withstand too much heat. Extended periods of time, a few days or weeks, in the sun can cause frizz and breakage, and the UV rays can lead to discolorisation. Darker shades and unnatural colours are more affected by this fading and dullness. But don’t worry! There are a few ways you can avoid damaging your wig.
Caring For Your Wig After A day In The Sun
Caring for your wig is even more important during the summer. Hair Tip Liquid is excellent for taming and controlling any frizz caused by the heat or humidity. Apply a small amount to your fingers and gently rub it in, then style your wig as you usually would. It brings back a bit of shine to your style, and can prevent breakage. If your wig does have any signs of sun damage, you can leave your conditioner on for longer than usual (around 15-20 minutes) for a deeper condition.
This will have your wig feeling softer and looking better in no time at all! It is also important to make sure the Shampoo and Conditioner you use for your wig is right for the fibre. Most brands have their own products for their wigs, and these have been carefully made for each type of fibre. Ensuring you have the right product is key.Â
